It wouldn't be France without a market nearby!
Every Saturday morning there is a large market in Chauvigny, which has a wide range of stalls, selling food, plants, furniture, household items and clothes. It's great fun to walk around the stalls, tasting samples and buying fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese, bread and cakes.
Saint Savin has a small market every Friday morning in front of the Abbey and in the summer there is an annual Farmers' Market which starts late in the afternoon and continues all evening. Food and wine can be bought to enjoy at the tables and chairs which are set up for the event.
Montmorillon has a market every Wednesday and there is an indoor market every day except Sunday in Poitiers.
On 29th of each month, one of the largest open markets in France is held at Les Herolles (about 40Km / 40 minutes from the gîte). This market really does sell almost anything but, be warned, it is very busy in summer.
